The White Knight Cichlid is a striking selectively bred African cichlid known for its brilliant white to icy-blue coloration and impressive adult appearance. Large males develop intense pearly white coloration with subtle blue highlights, creating a dramatic contrast against darker aquarium backgrounds.
This captive-bred color variety is associated with *Sciaenochromis fryeri*, the popular Electric Blue Hap. In the aquarium, White Knights appreciate plenty of open swimming space along with rockwork and caves that provide territories and visual barriers. A sandy substrate works especially well for creating a natural Lake Malawi-style environment.
White Knight Cichlids are primarily carnivorous but readily accept quality prepared aquarium foods. A high-quality African cichlid pellet should form the foundation of the diet and can be supplemented with mysis shrimp, krill, and brine shrimp. A balanced diet helps maintain healthy growth and strong coloration.
Adult males can be territorial, particularly toward other males and similarly shaped cichlids. They are generally best maintained with appropriately sized Lake Malawi haps and peacocks rather than small or passive community fish. Providing ample space and carefully arranged rockwork helps reduce territorial conflicts.
Like many Lake Malawi cichlids, this species is a maternal mouthbrooder. Females carry developing eggs and fry in their mouths until the young are sufficiently developed to become independent.
**Care Requirements:**
Care Level: Moderate | Temperament: Semi-Aggressive | Diet: Carnivore/Omnivore | Adult Size: 6–8 Inches | Minimum Tank Size: 75 Gallons | Temperature: 76–82°F | pH: 7.8–8.6 | Origin: Captive-Bred / Lake Malawi Lineage
If you're looking for a large African cichlid with brilliant light coloration and impressive presence, the White Knight Male Cichlid is an outstanding choice for a spacious Lake Malawi cichlid aquarium.
