Wendtii 'Tropica' Crypt Aquatic Plant (Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica')
The Wendtii 'Tropica' Crypt is a beautiful and versatile aquatic plant prized for its richly textured leaves and attractive bronze, olive green, and reddish-brown coloration. Developed by Tropica, this compact cultivar offers a more distinctive appearance than standard Cryptocoryne wendtii, making it an excellent choice for aquascapers looking to add natural contrast and depth to planted aquariums. Its hardy nature and adaptability make it ideal for both beginners and experienced hobbyists.
Native to Sri Lanka through its Cryptocoryne wendtii lineage, this plant thrives in slow-moving streams and shaded waterways. In the aquarium, Wendtii 'Tropica' performs well in low to moderate lighting and adapts to a wide range of water parameters. It develops the best coloration and leaf texture when provided with nutrient-rich substrate, consistent fertilization, and stable water conditions.
Like most Cryptocoryne species, Wendtii 'Tropica' may experience "Crypt Melt" after being introduced to a new aquarium. While the leaves may temporarily die back, the root system typically remains healthy and will produce new growth once the plant acclimates to its environment. Patience and stable conditions are the keys to long-term success.
This slow to moderate-growing plant spreads naturally through runners, gradually creating attractive clusters in the midground of planted aquariums. It pairs beautifully with Anubias, Bucephalandra, Java Fern, stem plants, and carpeting species, adding texture and a natural appearance to freshwater aquascapes.
