Blue Cobalt Goby (Stiphodon semoni)

The Blue Cobalt Goby is a breathtaking freshwater goby prized for its brilliant electric-blue coloration and fascinating behavior. Males display an intense cobalt blue body accented by subtle turquoise highlights that seem to glow under aquarium lighting, making this species one of the most visually striking gobies available in the hobby. Their vibrant colors and active nature make them a standout addition to planted aquariums and river-style aquascapes.

Native to fast-flowing streams throughout Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region, Blue Cobalt Gobies are well adapted to life in aquariums with excellent water quality, high oxygen levels, and moderate to strong water movement. They spend much of their day grazing on algae, biofilm, and microorganisms found on rocks, driftwood, and aquarium surfaces. Their constant activity and unique feeding behavior make them both beautiful and functional additions to the aquarium.

Blue Cobalt Gobies thrive in mature aquariums with established biofilm growth and plenty of smooth stones and hardscape. While they naturally graze throughout the day, they should also be offered high-quality algae-based foods, spirulina preparations, and supplemental frozen foods. Their peaceful temperament makes them excellent tank mates for other non-aggressive community fish.
