Sterbai Corydoras Catfish (Corydoras sterbai)

The Sterbai Corydoras Catfish is one of the most sought-after Corydoras species in the aquarium hobby, prized for its striking white spots set against a dark brown body and its vibrant orange pectoral and pelvic fins. Peaceful, active, and endlessly entertaining, these bottom-dwelling catfish are excellent additions to community aquariums, where they spend their days foraging through the substrate and interacting with one another. Their unique appearance and hardy nature make them a favorite among both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Native to the Guaporé River Basin in Brazil and Bolivia, Sterbai Corydoras inhabit slow-moving streams and flooded forest areas with soft, sandy bottoms. In the aquarium, they thrive in well-maintained tanks with fine sand or smooth gravel, driftwood, rocks, and plenty of live plants. As highly social fish, they should always be kept in groups of at least six, with larger schools displaying the most natural behavior and confidence.

Sterbai Corydoras are omnivorous scavengers that eagerly accept high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, blackworms, and other meaty foods. While they help clean up leftover food, they should not be relied upon as "clean-up fish" and require a dedicated feeding routine to remain healthy and active.

Their peaceful disposition makes them ideal tank mates for tetras, rasboras, angelfish, dwarf cichlids, gouramis, rainbowfish, livebearers, and other non-aggressive community fish. Unlike many Corydoras species, Sterbai Corydoras tolerate the warmer water temperatures often preferred by discus and angelfish, making them an excellent bottom-dwelling companion in South American aquariums.
