Snow White Discus (Symphysodon spp.)
The Snow White Discus is a breathtaking selectively bred discus variety prized for its clean, creamy-white to brilliant snow-white coloration and elegant disc-shaped body. Unlike heavily patterned discus varieties, Snow White Discus have a refined, minimalist appearance that allows their graceful shape and subtle pearlescent tones to stand out. Their unusual coloration makes them a spectacular centerpiece for planted aquariums and dedicated discus displays.
Developed from South American Symphysodon lineages, Snow White Discus are captive-bred ornamental fish that thrive in warm, clean, and exceptionally stable water conditions. They appreciate spacious aquariums with excellent filtration, regular water changes, and plenty of open swimming space. Driftwood and live plants capable of tolerating warmer temperatures can be incorporated to create an attractive and comfortable environment.
Discus are social cichlids and are generally best maintained in groups of five or more unless keeping an established breeding pair. Providing adequate aquarium space helps the group establish a natural social hierarchy while reducing excessive aggression toward individual fish.
Snow White Discus are omnivores and should receive a varied, nutrient-rich diet. High-quality discus pellets and granules can be supplemented with frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, bloodworms, and other nutritious frozen or prepared foods. Juveniles benefit from several smaller meals throughout the day to support proper growth, body development, and overall condition.
Despite being cichlids, Snow White Discus are generally peaceful and should be housed with calm tank mates that thrive at similarly warm temperatures. Cardinal Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetras, Sterbai Corydoras, and other gentle community species can make excellent companions. Aggressive, fin-nipping, or extremely active fish should be avoided.
