The Royal Plecostomus L190 is an impressive South American pleco prized for its bold striped pattern, armored body, and distinctive sucker-shaped mouth. Royal Plecos have specialized teeth that allow them to scrape and consume wood along with algae and biofilm. Their aquarium diet should include plenty of vegetable-based foods such as quality algae wafers, spirulina foods, Repashy-style gel foods, zucchini, squash, and other appropriate vegetables. The L190 is generally peaceful toward midwater and upper-level fish but may become territorial toward other plecos and bottom-dwelling catfish, especially as it matures. Providing multiple caves, territories, and plenty of space can help reduce conflicts when keeping it with other large bottom dwellers.
Royal Plecos are large fish that can produce substantial amounts of waste. Powerful filtration, good water movement, regular water changes, and excellent water quality are essential. Their eventual adult size should be considered before purchasing a juvenile.
