Plakat Super Blue Male Betta Fish (Betta splendens)
The Plakat Super Blue Male Betta is a stunning selectively bred Betta prized for its intense blue coloration, compact fins, and bold personality. Depending on the individual fish and lighting, its scales may display brilliant shades of royal blue, electric blue, turquoise, or deep metallic blue. The rich coloration combined with the strong, streamlined Plakat body shape makes this variety an impressive centerpiece for a freshwater aquarium.
The term "Plakat" refers to the short-finned form of Betta splendens. Unlike traditional long-finned Bettas, Plakats have shorter, stronger fins that give them a more athletic appearance and allow them to swim with greater ease. Male Plakat Bettas are particularly impressive when displaying, spreading their fins and intensifying their coloration.
Like other domesticated Bettas, the Plakat Super Blue Male Betta thrives in a heated, filtered aquarium with gentle water movement. Live plants, floating vegetation, driftwood, caves, and broad-leaved plants provide enrichment and comfortable resting areas. Bettas are labyrinth fish and regularly breathe atmospheric air at the surface, so unobstructed access to the water's surface is essential.
Plakat Super Blue Bettas are primarily carnivorous and insectivorous. A high-quality Betta pellet should form the foundation of their diet and can be supplemented with frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and other appropriately sized protein-rich foods. A varied diet helps maintain healthy body condition, strong finnage, and intense coloration.
Male Bettas are territorial and should not be housed with other male Bettas. Depending on the individual's temperament and aquarium setup, they may be compatible with carefully selected peaceful community fish and invertebrates. Aggressive species and persistent fin-nippers should be avoided.
