The Plakat Blue Male Betta is a stunning selectively bred variety of *Betta splendens* prized for its vibrant blue coloration and compact, athletic body shape. Coloration ranges from deep royal blue to brilliant electric blue, turquoise, or metallic shades depending on lighting and individual variation. The short-finned Plakat form gives these fish a streamlined appearance and stronger fins compared to traditional long-finned Bettas, making them impressive swimmers and exceptional display fish.
Plakats thrive in heated, filtered aquariums with gentle water movement. Provide live plants, floating vegetation, driftwood, caves, and broad-leaved plants for enrichment and resting areas. As labyrinth fish, they breathe atmospheric air and must have unobstructed access to the water's surface at all times.
These fish are primarily carnivorous and insectivorous. Feed a high-quality Betta pellet as the diet foundation, supplemented with frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and other protein-rich foods. Varied nutrition supports vibrant coloration and strong finnage.
Male Bettas are highly territorial and must be housed individually. Compatibility with community fish depends on the individual's temperament and tank setup—avoid aggressive species and fin-nippers. Compatible tank mates may include peaceful community fish and invertebrates when space and layout are appropriate.
