Orange Branching Lobophyllia Coral (Lobophyllia sp.)

The Orange Branching Lobophyllia Coral is a rare and eye-catching large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its brilliant orange coloration, thick fleshy polyps, and unique branching growth form. Unlike the more commonly seen massive Lobophyllia species, this branching variety develops sculptural branches that add height, texture, and dimension to a reef aquarium. Under blue LED lighting, its vibrant orange tissue often fluoresces brilliantly, creating a stunning focal point in any reef display.

Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, Branching Lobophyllia thrives in mature reef aquariums with stable water chemistry, moderate lighting, and gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. During the day, its fleshy polyps expand to display vivid coloration, while at night it may extend feeder tentacles to capture suspended food particles.

This hardy LPS coral is well suited for intermediate reef keepers and benefits from occasional target feedings of mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, reef roids, or other coral foods. While much of its energy comes from its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, supplemental feedings can encourage faster growth, fuller polyp extension, and enhanced coloration. Provide adequate spacing, as Lobophyllia corals can extend sweeper tentacles capable of stinging nearby corals.
