Goonch Catfish require exceptionally large aquariums with excellent filtration, strong water movement, and high oxygen levels. Smooth rocks, large pieces of driftwood, and open areas for resting help recreate their natural habitat. They are carnivorous and readily accept whole fish, shrimp, earthworms, mussels, and other meaty foods. Because of their rapid growth and eventual size, they should only be kept by experienced aquarists prepared to provide long-term accommodations.
This species is not suitable for community aquariums. Any fish small enough to fit into its mouth will likely be viewed as prey, and only very large, robust tank mates should be considered in appropriately sized systems.
