Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge acanthops)

In the home aquarium, it thrives in mature tanks with abundant live rock, caves, and crevices that provide both grazing opportunities and secure hiding places. Plenty of swimming space combined with a well-established biological system helps this species settle in quickly and display its best colors.
Flameback Angelfish are omnivores with a strong preference for algae and sponge-based foods. They should be offered a varied diet that includes high-quality marine angelfish preparations, spirulina, marine algae, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and frozen foods containing sponge material. Frequent, varied feedings help maintain vibrant coloration and overall health.
While generally peaceful toward most community fish, Flameback Angelfish can become territorial toward other dwarf angelfish and similarly shaped species. They are best kept singly unless housed in a very large aquarium. They are considered reef safe with caution, as some individuals may nip at large polyp stony corals, soft corals, zoanthids, clam mantles, or other sessile invertebrates, though many coexist successfully in mixed reef aquariums.
