Endlicheri Bichir (Polypterus endlicheri)
The Endlicheri Bichir is a magnificent prehistoric freshwater fish admired for its massive build, armored scales, and dragon-like appearance. A tightly fitting lid is essential, as they are surprisingly strong and accomplished escape artists. They prefer subdued lighting and excellent filtration with stable water conditions. Their diet should consist of high-quality carnivorous foods, including sinking carnivore pellets, earthworms, shrimp, fish, mussels, and other meaty frozen or fresh foods.
While peaceful toward larger fish, Endlicheri Bichirs are opportunistic predators and will consume any tank mate small enough to swallow. They do well with other large, peaceful species such as larger catfish, Silver Dollars, larger cichlids, and fellow bichirs in appropriately sized aquariums.
