They can be kept singly, in pairs, or with other peaceful to moderately assertive fish of similar size.
Electric Blue Acaras thrive in aquariums with driftwood, rocks, and sturdy aquatic plants, along with plenty of open swimming space. They prefer clean, well-filtered water and a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and other protein-rich foods. Their hardy nature and adaptable temperament make them one of the easiest South American cichlids to keep.
While generally peaceful, Electric Blue Acaras may become mildly territorial during breeding but rarely display the aggression seen in many larger cichlid species. They are an excellent centerpiece fish for community aquariums with compatible tank mates such as larger tetras, rainbowfish, Corydoras, peaceful catfish, and other non-aggressive cichlids.
