Common Plecostomus

The Common Plecostomus is a hardy, algae-eating catfish ideal for established freshwater aquariums. Growing to 12 inches or more, this bottom-dweller helps maintain tank cleanliness by consuming algae buildup on surfaces and decorations. Nocturnal by nature, it prefers dimly lit environments with plenty of hiding spots among driftwood and caves. Feed supplemental sinking pellets and vegetables like zucchini to ensure proper nutrition. Requires a minimum 75-gallon tank with moderate water flow and temperatures between 72–82°F. A peaceful community fish, it coexists well with most non-aggressive species. Durable and long-lived, the Common Plecostomus can thrive for 10+ years with proper care, making it a reliable addition to any aquarist's setup.
