Black Belt Cichlids are large growing Central American Cichlids in the Vieja family! This herbivorous fish will eat anything, however high animal protein foods should be used sparingly as these fish are eaters of algae, fruit and nuts, and plant material. The Black Belt Cichlid gets its name from the black banding around the body- they are also however relatively aggressive and will fight with other fish, so tankmates should be other large fish that can handle themselves in the presence of these rough cichlids. Despite their attitudes, these are not difficult fish to keep and they grow to an impressive size of over 11 inches! Photos are for demonstration purposes only.
