The Big Eye Soldierfish is a striking deep-sea species prized by advanced saltwater aquarists. Named for its distinctively large eyes adapted to low-light environments, this fish displays vibrant red coloring with silvery accents and reaches approximately 6 inches in length.
Best suited for established reef or fish-only systems with stable conditions, the Big Eye Soldierfish is nocturnal and prefers dimly lit tanks with plenty of hiding spaces among rockwork and caves. It feeds on small crustaceans and frozen foods, thriving in cooler saltwater environments between 72–76°F.
This species is moderately hardy once acclimated and makes an excellent addition to tanks seeking unique, less common inhabitants. Requires a minimum 75-gallon aquarium and compatible tank mates that won't compete aggressively for food or territory.
