Alternanthera reineckii 'Lilacina' is a stunning stem plant prized for its elegant lavender, pink, burgundy, and deep red hues. Originating from the Alternanthera reineckii species native to South America, the 'Lilacina' cultivar thrives in nutrient-rich aquariums with stable water conditions. It performs well under moderate to high lighting and benefits greatly from supplemental CO₂ and regular fertilization, which encourage compact growth and intensify its signature pink and reddish-purple coloration. Iron supplementation is especially beneficial for maintaining vibrant foliage.
Alternanthera reineckii 'Lilacina' is a moderate-growing stem plant that can be trimmed regularly to encourage bushier growth. The cuttings can easily be replanted to create dense, colorful groups throughout the aquarium. It is most commonly used in the midground or background, where its contrasting colors provide dramatic visual impact among green plants.
This plant pairs exceptionally well with carpeting plants, Cryptocorynes, Anubias, Bucephalandra, and fine-leaf stem plants, making it an excellent choice for Nature Aquariums, Dutch-style layouts, and high-tech aquascapes.
