The Albino Mdoka White Lip Cichlid is a striking captive-bred color form of the popular Mdoka White Lip, an African cichlid prized for its distinctive facial features, impressive body shape, and bold presence. The albino variety replaces the typical blue coloration with pale white to cream tones, often accompanied by warm yellow or pink highlights and reddish eyes. Its characteristic thick lips become increasingly noticeable as the fish matures.
This species originates from Lake Malawi in East Africa. In the aquarium, it appreciates plenty of open swimming space combined with a sandy substrate and strategically placed rockwork. Strong filtration, good oxygenation, and regular water changes are important for maintaining the clean, mineral-rich conditions preferred by Lake Malawi cichlids.
Albino Mdoka White Lips are omnivorous and should receive a varied, high-quality diet. Quality African cichlid pellets form the foundation, supplemented with mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, spirulina-based foods, and other suitable preparations. A balanced diet supports healthy growth and coloration.
This species is generally less aggressive than many Malawi cichlids, but males become territorial as they mature, especially during breeding. They do best with appropriately sized Lake Malawi cichlids that are not excessively aggressive. Adequate aquarium space and visual barriers help reduce territorial disputes.
Females are maternal mouthbrooders, carrying fertilized eggs and developing fry in their mouths until the young are ready to become independent.
Care Level: Moderate | Temperament: Semi-Aggressive | Diet: Omnivore | Adult Size: 7–9 Inches | Minimum Tank Size: 75 Gallons | Temperature: 76–82°F | pH: 7.8–8.6 | Origin: Captive-Bred / Lake Malawi
The Albino Mdoka White Lip Cichlid offers unusual coloration, prominent lips, and commanding appearance—an outstanding choice for a spacious Lake Malawi cichlid aquarium.
